Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office holding Zoom training session for the public over SAFE-T Act changes

Starting next week, the detainment of defendants in Illinois will no longer fall on their ability to make bail.

The elimination of cash bail in Illinois takes effect on September 18. Instead, judges will make a determination if defendants are a threat to members of the public.

The legislation significantly changes the way law enforcement will conduct arrests and nearly every step of the criminal prosecution process.

The Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office is hosting a Zoom training session on Thursday, September 14, at 5:00 p.m. to increase community awareness about the SAFE-T Act.

The meeting is expected to last an hour and pre-registration is required.
