Galesburg man charged after pushing school official

A Galesburg man is facing charges after an incident Friday afternoon at Steele Elementary School in Galesburg. Galesburg Police around 2:00pm on Friday afternoon responded to the school on West Main Street for a disturbance. Officers met with the principal who said a 44-year-old Galesburg man came to the school and was upset about his child being bullied. The man and the school’s principal had a conversation near the front lobby and the man became increasingly upset when he was not allowed to go to his child’s classroom, per school policy. The man left the school but then returned moments later demanding to be let in. When the principal again refused, the man pushed past her causing her to lose her balance. The man left after the principal said the police were being called. School staff wished to pursue charges for unwanted physical contact. Officers met with the man at his residence where he admitted to “moving past” the victim but did not intentionally push her. The man was placed under arrest and was charged with battery.
