Early Saturday afternoon, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the area of Berrien and Oak Streets for a report of a vehicle striking a tree. Officers made contact with a 39-year-old sitting next to a white truck. A second woman on scene told police the truck the woman was driving had no brakes and struck another truck before striking the tree. The registration on the white truck was suspended and expired. The female driver admitted to police that she had been drinking and that she, “stole the truck from down the road, where it was parked at a job site,” according to police reports. The woman had difficulty staying awake. The woman could only perform a portion of a field sobriety test. The woman’s BAC was .339 – over four times the legal limit. The woman was first transported to OSF for an evaluation per jail policy and was then taken to the Knox County Jail. Ultimately, the woman was charged with DUI A1, DUI A2, No Insurance, Expired Registration, Operating a Vehicle with Suspended Registration, Driving While License is Suspended, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Failure to Reduce Speed.
