Are the popular Kitchen Cooked potato chips returning to their classic taste? A company spokesman says they’re trying.
Social media is a buzz with a post featuring a photo of a bag of Kitchen Cooked chips and text that reads: Our Classic Taste is Back. Look for the new batch of KC chips. The post goes on to say: Renewed Farmington chip taste, January dated bags and beyond!
WGIL reached out to Utz Brands — which added the Kitchen Cooked brand of snack products to its portfolio in December 2019 — to see if that original taste is indeed coming back.
“With a brand that’s 90 years young, our kitchen crafters have recently worked to take Kitchen Cooked to its earliest roots and more closely align the potatoes and cooking process to what Kitchen Cooked fans know and love.” — Kevin J. Brick, vice president and community affairs with Utz Quality Foods
Via email, Kevin J. Brick, vice president and community affairs with Utz Quality Foods said, “With a brand that’s 90 years young, our kitchen crafters have recently worked to take Kitchen Cooked to its earliest roots and more closely align the potatoes and cooking process to what Kitchen Cooked fans know and love. A good bit of craftsmanship goes into making great-tasting snack foods, particularly Kitchen Cooked potato chips.”
Brick did not comment on the validity of the social media post or the statement about a renewed taste returning with January dated bags. The post does not appear on the Utz Snacks Facebook page.
According to Brick, the Kitchen Cooked brand was launched during the 1930s with Flossie Howard making potato chips as a way to support her family during the great depression. The business was sold to Richard Blackhurst in the 1970s and has been in Utz’s portfolio since December 2019.
“Utz is proud to produce Kitchen Cooked snacks, and we look forward to continuing to delight fans with these deliciously crafted snack foods,” Brick said.
Kitchen Cooked chips previously were produced locally in Farmington and Bushnell.
