Man taken into custody, GPD investigating string of thefts at Target

Around 7:20 pm on Saturday, Galesburg Police responded to Target on Carl Sandburg Drive for a report of theft in progress. When officers arrived they met with employees who said a white female suspect and a Hispanic male suspect had been repeatedly stealing from the store, but they always ran from employees. Target already had an open case against the pair. According to employees, the pair is involved in a string of thefts at Targets across the district. The two suspects typically come into the store with multiple other people and they all split up, take the merchandise, meet up in the middle of the store, combine all the merchandise into one cart, and then leave without paying for it. Since late July, in four incidents, nearly $5,500 worth of merchandise had been stolen. Officers made contact with the man and woman and discovered the man had an extraditable warrant out of Washington, Iowa for theft and he was detained. No contraband was found on either suspect. The 36-year-old man of Burlington, Iowa was transported to the Knox County Jail. The incident is still under investigation.
