Candidates begin to file for 2024 Knox County elections

Monday was the first day that candidates could turn in their petitions in Illinois to run for federal, state, and local offices in 2024.

Knox County Clerk Scott Erickson said on Tuesday so far only one candidate each has filed to run for Coroner and Circuit Clerk.

WGIL has previously reported that Republicans Jacque Dare would run for Coroner and Mary Ostrander would run for Circuit Clerk.

Ashley Worby, a Republican for Knox County State’s Attorney, filed her petitions on Tuesday and is the lone candidate for that office at this point.

There looks to be some competition next year for Knox County Board seats.

As it stands now, District 1 would see a race between Republican Fred McGunnigal and Democrat Tracy Robertson to replace Democrat Amanda Smith.

District 2 can elect 2 members from a slate that includes  Republicans Brent Zhorne and Jennifer Fredrick and Democrats Erin Pugh and David Amor.

Board member Greg “Chops” Bacon is not running for re-election and Amor is trying to be elected back to the board after losing his seat in 2022.

District 5 will have two seats open but only Republican Patty Boone is running for re-election.

Longtime board member Rick Sandoval has yet to file petitions.

Candidates can still submit their paperwork to be on the ballot up until Dec. 4.
