A Peoria man was sentenced this week in Knox County Court to 12 years in prison for causing a crash that killed a man in 2021.
41-year-old Travis Williams was sentenced after pleading guilty to aggravated DUI.
Back on Oct. 17, 2021, Williams was driving under the influence, and was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 52 on Interstate 74.
Williams Cadillac collided head-on with a Toyota benign driven by 35-year-old Kenneth Yeater of Mackinaw, Illinois.
Yeater was pronounced dead at the scene.
At sentencing Monday, the court heard evidence that Williams had a prior DUI and was on federal parole at the time of the collision.
Williams also told the court that he had apologized to Yeater’s widow and family.
Circuit Judge Andrew Doyle imposed the sentence of 12 years with aggravated DUI carrying a sentencing range of 3 to 14 years in prison. Williams is required to serve 85% of the sentence.
