police

Galesburg Police on Saturday, around 8:00 in the morning, responded to a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of North Farnham and Summit Streets. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Nissan sedan was on the terrace up against a fence with the male driver slumped over behind the wheel sleeping. Police turned the vehicle off and observed numerous beer cans near the driver’s feet and in the cup holders. The 23-year-old man, who was emitting a strong alcoholic odor, agreed to a field sobriety test which indicated several signs of impairment. During a search of the vehicle, police found a duffle bag on the front passenger seat containing several cans of unopened beer and a baggie containing suspected cocaine in the center console. The man, at the Public Safety Building, provided a breath sample which read his BAC as .218 – over two and a half times the legal limit. The man was taken to the Knox County Jail and charged with DUI A1, DUI A2, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
