Abingdon woman arrested for ongoing theft at Walmart

Galesburg Police on Wednesday of last week responded to Walmart for an ongoing theft. Walmart employees had created a file on a 59-year-old Abingdon woman with ongoing retail theft incidents dating back to mid-October. Employees gave police numerous DVDs of the woman stealing as well as committing return frauds – by returning items to the store that were never paid for to begin with. The items stolen range from health and beauty supplies, to clothing, grocery items, home decor, and toys. When the woman returned stolen property that was never paid for, she would receive a gift card for the price of the returned items. Since mid-October, the woman stole nearly $2,000 worth of items. Police spoke to the female suspect over the phone and she agreed to report to the police station for an interview. While at the Public Safety Building, the woman denied stealing any items from Walmart despite numerous surveillance tapes showing her in the act. She was banned from Walmart and taken into custody charged with Felony Retail Theft.
