Due to poor weather conditions, the following city facilities and services are closed on Friday?
  • Galesburg City Hall – closing at 1:00 p.m.
  • City of Galesburg Public Transportation – not in operation 
  • Waste Management  – not in operation. All refuse scheduled for pick-up today, will be picked up on Friday, January 19th. All refuse presented on the 19th will be collected, as it is understood that residents will have more refuse than typical.
  • Hawthorne Municipal Pool & Gym – closed
  • Lakeside Recreational Facility – closed

Conditions will be turning much colder starting tonight, with wind chill temperatures expected to reach minus 10 to minus 30 at times Saturday night through Monday night. Highs will be mainly in the single digits Sunday through Tuesday, while lows will range from around 10 below zero to a few degrees above zero. Before the cold weather arrives, rain and a few thunderstorms today will change to snow this afternoon, with snow and blowing snow tonight and Saturday. Snowfall amounts look to be around an inch or less for most areas, but several inches are possible north of Peoria including snowfall early Friday morning.

A snow emergency for the City of Galesburg went into effect at 6 a.m. on Friday. Citizens are reminded that a parking prohibition will take effect on all Galesburg city streets during the snow emergency. Vehicles parked on city streets (except in the central business district) during this time will be subject to ticketing and towing. The parking prohibition will remain in effect until all streets are cleared.
