The Chief Judge of the 9th Judicial Circuit, David Vancil Jr. has been appointed to the bench on one of Illinois’ appellate courts.
Justice Lisa Holder White and the Illinois Supreme Court announced the appointment Wednesday although the assignment is effective Feb. 2 for a newly created seat on the 4th District Appellate Court.
Vancil has been a judge in the 9th Circuit for over 20 years, first being appointed in Henderson County and then being retained by voters several times.
Vancil also served as Chief Judge of the Circuit since 2015.
Before the bench, he was Henderson County State’s Attorney from 1996 to 2002, an assistant public defender in Knox County and an Assistant State’s Attorney in Warren County.
Judge Vancil says, “I want to thank Justice Holder White and the Supreme Court for having confidence in my abilities and giving me the opportunity to serve on the Fourth District Appellate Court. I look forward to the challenges this new position will bring and promise to do my best to meet those challenges.
The Fourth Appellate Court is composed of 41 counties in central and western Illinois
