GPD investigating after man is stabbed outside downtown Galesburg bar

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday, Galesburg Police responded to OSF St. Mary’s Medical Center for a report of a stabbing victim. Police met with a 26-year-old male victim who had a laceration to his lower stomach and was in pain. The man said an unknown Hispanic male subject was “saying…crazy” things to him and the man and woman he was with while outside a downtown Galesburg bar. The man said an unknown female subject struck him, and then the male suspect stabbed him.

The male victim was transported to OSF St. Francis in Peoria. The woman who was with the victim at the bar confirmed the man’s account of what happened and was able to identify the male suspect. The Hispanic man became upset after the male victim and his friend spoke to the man’s wife. After reviewing a photo lineup, the woman identified the male suspect – and police are familiar with the man and his wife from previous encounters.

The incident is still under investigation and police, at the time of the report, were reviewing area surveillance footage.
