A Galesburg eye clinic forced to temporarily close due to a ceiling collapse linked to ice and snow buildup has set its sights on reopening later this month.

Kehoe Eye Care, 261 N. Broad St. in the 4L Plaza, suffered roof damage and flooding throughout the clinic when a portion of the ceiling collapsed in the overnight hours Jan. 22.

Dr. Peter Kehoe, longtime owner of Kehoe Eye Care, tells WGIL he hopes the Galesburg location will reopen to patients on Feb. 19.

“Actually, we continued to have some damage in the days following the initial collapse,” Kehoe said. “We had 12 inches of ice up there, so the weight alone caused several trusses to break.

“Fortunately, the damage area was self-contained to the break room, and a little into our doctors library. The good news is, we had minimal drywall issues, and Royal Cleaning did an amazing job drying out the carpet.”

Kehoe said all employees have continued to be fully employed during the closure.

While the Galesburg office remains closed, Kehoe said the practice has been be able to serve patients at its satellites offices in Monmouth and Galva.

As of today (Friday), Kehoe Eye Care will be open in Suite 23 of 4L Plaza to serve customers picking up glasses and contacts, along with making repairs.
