Galesburg man charged after striking another man with a cane

Around 9:40 on Thursday night, Galesburg Police responded to the 500 block of Iowa Court for a battery in progress. Police met with a 19-year-old male victim who was bleeding from the head after getting struck in the head with a cane by a 48-year-old man. Witnesses confirmed to police what occurred and the victim was transported to the hospital. The trouble began the day before on January 31st. The details are unknown, but the man was charged with battery the day before after striking the 19-year-old victim. After the altercation on Thursday, the male victim’s mother ran out to confront the male suspect with a loaded 9mm firearm. Police confiscated the pistol. Police were then advised the male suspect was at a different address at Iowa Court. Officers made contact with the man who was shirtless at the time – police found the man’s bloody shirt inside the residence. The man would not admit to striking the other man with a cane. The 48-year-old man was banned from the Knox County Housing Authority and was charged with Criminal Trespassing and Aggravated Battery with a deadly weapon. The victim’s 34-year-old mother was charged with Violation of the FOID Card Act and Possession of a firearm without a FOID Card.
