Lois M. Stodgel, 88, of Galesburg, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
Lois was born on February 3, 1936, in Elmore, Illinois. She was the daughter of Clyde Anderson “Pete” and Golda (Lumberry) Yelm. She married Jackson “Jack” F. Stodgel, II in Williamsfield in 1955. Together they celebrated 68 years of marriage. Surviving Lois are: her son, Gerry C. (Lisa) Stodgel of Galesburg; six grandchildren Misty Stodgel, Steve Stodgel, Jackie Stodgel, Adrianne Stodgel, Carl Stodgel and Lainee Hobbs, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Bea Hefflin of Williamsfield, Ed Yelm of Williamsfield and Bill Yelm of Southern Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, sons Jack Stodgel and Greg Stodgel, sister Ilene Daniels, brother Dorence Yelm.
Lois was a graduate of Williamsfield High School. She was a member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church. Lois was an avid volunteer, volunteering at Cottage Corner in Galesburg and for the local catfish fry at the former Galesburg American Legion. She was a social butterfly and always enjoyed social hour. Lois loved to shop and travel. After Jack’s retirement, Jack and Lois would “snowbird” in their camper and eventually settle in St. Petersburg, Florida, for 25 years. They loved their community and friends there. Most of all, Lois loved spending time with her family.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. Cremation rites will be accorded after visitation. A burial of cremated remains will be 10 a.m., Friday, March 1, 2024, at the Williamsfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Williamsfield American Legion Post 371.
