The City of Galesburg is making residents aware of door-to-door solicitors and the fact that they don’t represent the City or Ameren Illinois.
The City says that several door-to-door energy suppliers, general contractors, and solar panel installers have been soliciting Galesburg residences and small businesses door-to-door.
Some of these companies and individuals are pressuring residents to sign contracts for the supply of energy or have solar panels installed.
The city urges residents to avoid sharing billing or any other confidential information with someone they do not know and to treat sales offers with caution.
A door-to-door peddler is required to wear a badge, which should be clearly visible to the resident, provided by the City of Galesburg.
This identifies them as being registered with the City; however, this registration does not indicate they are a representative of the City or Ameren.
Peddlers must also respect the wishes of the occupant if directed to leave.
