Streaks senior earns Galesburg’s first IHSA boys swimming state medal since 2006

A Galesburg senior capped his high school swimming career by claiming the Streaks’ first state medal since 2006.

Riley Stevenson finished eighth in the 50-yard freestyle finals at the Illinois High School Association boys swimming and diving state finals Saturday at the FMC Natatorium. Stevenson swam his finals 50 free in 20.71 seconds.

Stevenson earned first-team all-state honors for his finish.

Five of the eight Streaks team records fell this past weekend.
  • 200 medley relay: 1:35.51 Carson Olson, Travis Henry, Luke Thomas, Riley Stevenson – 23rd
  • 200 I.M.: Carson Olson – 1:54.99 – 27th
  • 50 free: Riley Stevenson – 20.71  – 8th medalist and finalist
  • 100 fly: Carson Olson -50.47 – 18th
  • 100 free: Riley Stevenson – 46.50 – 21st
Other performances included:
  • 200 free relay: (Season best) 1:26.56 – Riley Stevenson, Luke Thomas, Nathan Nelson, Carson Olson -17th just missing out of the top 16 spots for the finals.
  • 100 breast: Luke Thomas – 1:00.86
  • 400 free relay: 3:22.38 – Ryan Tapper, Nathan Nelson, Jackson Warren , Luke Thomas
  • Diving: Andrew Peterson
