A new Galesburg VA clinic is slated to open in the former Sandburg Mall this fall.

Jessica Beswick-Honn, chief engineer at the Iowa City VA Health Care System, tells WGIL the Lane A. Evans VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic, currently located at 310 Home Blvd., will open in the former Bergner’s store in Sandburg Mall in October.

The new Galesburg VA clinic will lease nearly 20,000 square feet of the Bergner’s building, the same amount of space that was recently utilized by the the Knox County Health Department for its Unified Command Vaccination Center.

The move will allow the Galesburg VA clinic to nearly double in size and provide additional services.

The clinic will offer primary care, mental health, physical therapy, radiology, audiology (including an audio booth), basic optometry, telehealth services, and a base for home-based primary care. Beswick-Honn said the VA hops to include some outpatient specialty care appointments in the future.

The VA previously told WGIL the new Galesburg Clinic would open in former Bergner’s store by the late fall of 2023. Beswick-Honn said Friday the new Galesburg clinic is near 40% completion.

According to the VA, patients in Galesburg will not face an interruption in care.
