A Kentucky-Derby themed running/walking event is coming to downtown Galesburg later this month.
The inaugural Off to the Races! 5K/1M is set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27. Sponsored by the Downtown Community Partnership of Galesburg, the race will start and finish at The Vault at Reserve Artisan Ales, at 185 S. Kellogg St.
Routes vary, with the 5K winding through downtown Galesburg, with only slight elevation along some stretches, around historic buildings, and with guides at every turn. The 1-mile run also offers the sites of downtown, but with fewer turns and elevation, making it suitable for families and walkers.
Off to the Races! 5K/1M also allows well-behaved pets on leashes as well as kids in strollers.
Registration is open online at https://bit.ly/OffToTheRaces5K, or participants can register day-of starting at 8 a.m. For those who sign up ahead of time, packet pickup will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 26 in the lobby of The Vault at Reserve Artisan Ales.
Cost is $15, $25, or $35 depending on options chosen. Participants can choose from three sign-up options, which can include a commemorative race T-shirt, finisher medal, swag bag. and a chance to win awards.
Runners and walkers alike will enjoy the post-race party and items offered by sponsors Templeton Roofing, The Strength Collective, The Downtown Escape, and more.
