Sheriffs Department warns of phone scam

The Knox County Sheriffs Department is again warning of a fraud that may reference the department – this time, relating to jury duty.

The department says it’s been made aware that residents are receiving phone calls from someone referencing Sheriff Jack Harlan, demanding that a bond be posted in order to resolve missing jury duty, or that resident could face an arrest warrant.

The department says they’ll never call someone and demand money be paid over the phone, as the caller does, nor will they use any other electronic means.

It may also look like it’s coming from a department phone number, but may be spoofed.

If you receive a call, it’s suggested you hang up, and call (309) 343-9151.
