A Knox County man is detained in the Knox County Jail on meth trafficking charges after a traffic stop last week.

The 45-year-old is facing charges that include Class X felonies of meth delivery and possession of meth.

Galesburg Police first initiated a traffic stop on the man last Wednesday night at 11 p.m. for speeding in a 45 mph zone.

The officer was aware of Crimestoppers tips on the driver selling drugs, so she requested the Knox County Sheriff’s K9.

K9 Brenna did alert to the presence of narcotics which gave officers cause to search the vehicle.

The search yielded among other things a gallon size bag inside a box of Little Debbie’s Nutty Buddies, which was concealing nearly 11 ounces of methemphetamine, or over 300 grams.

Police also found multiple hypodermic needles, $2,000 in cash, and 30 grams of cannabis.

The amount of meth found triggers a Class X felony, since it was more than 100 grams.

The man is also facing a Class 3 felony of manufacturing or delivering cannabis.

During an initial appearance in court on May 9th Judge Chad Long granted the state’s request to detain the man and appointed the public defender.

He will next be in court for a preliminary hearing on June 2 at 2 p.m.
