NWS: Derecho caused storm damage in region Friday morning

Its effects weren’t largely felt in this area, but the National Weather Service says the line of storms that moved from Iowa into Illinois Friday morning was another “derecho.”

You may recall the last major derecho that hit this area was several years ago. It’s defined as a widespread straight-line wind storm.

A number of tornadoes were reported to the north of the Galesburg area Friday morning. One did some damage in Coyne Center, outside of the Quad Cities.

Trained weather spotters reported tornadoes in parts of Henry County especially.

Closer to this area, aside from the rain we saw, there were some reports of thunderstorm wind damage in Stark County, causing temporary power outages.

There are no reports of injuries.

A second round of storms Friday afternoon caused tornado warnings in parts of the Warren and McDonough County areas, but no major reports of damage or other problems.
