Autopsy ‘inconclusive’ on young girl who fell ill on flight diverted to Peoria

The autopsy on an eight-year-old girl who died after she got sick and the plane she was on was diverted to Peoria as a result was inconclusive.

That’s according to Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood, who says it will take four to six weeks for further testing to be complete on Sydney Weston of Carl Junction, Missouri.

A plane traveling to Chicago from Joplin, Missouri had to be diverted to the Peoria International Airport Thursday after Weston fell ill during the flight.

Ambulance, the Air National Guard, and others all helped to render aid to Weston until she was taken to a Peoria hospital where she later was pronounced dead.

Harwood says histology, biopsies, cultures, blood hematology and chemistry, and toxicology will all be taken.

He does say no foul play was evident, and there were no signs of abuse or neglect.
