A number of Illinois Democrats took some time before coming out to back Vice President Kamala Harris running for the top job in November, now that President Joe Biden is withdrawing.

Among them was 17th District Congressman Eric Sorensen. In a statement Sunday, the East Moline Democrat thanked Biden for what he called a lifetime of service, and says he’s “seen Central and Northwestern Illinois benefiting from his leadership.”

It wasn’t until Monday that Sorensen said on social media he’d be backing Harris, saying she “will lead with passion, empathy, and fire.”

Sorensen’s November opponent, Rockford Judge Joe McGraw, who claims he was in Galesburg Sunday, said, “For months, Joe Biden, Eric Sorensen and the rest of the Washington Democrats have been trafficking in lies and deceit trying to pull the wool over Americans’ eyes about Joe Biden’s ability to run for reelection.”

McGraw says Biden still needs to resign.

And 16th District Republican Congressman Darin LaHood focused his concern over whether Biden can be president for four more months.

The Democratic National Convention takes place in Chicago in a few weeks.
