Glenn Richard “Rich” Wehering, age 86, of Monmouth, Illinois, passed away at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born October 1, 1937, in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Carl Fredrick and Anna Mae (Jared) Wehering. Rich was raised and educated in Monmouth, attending Monmouth High School, and later, Carl Sandburg College. On February 11, 1956, he married Bernice Gray in Kirkwood, Illinois, and she preceded him in death on December 6, 2023.
Rich worked most of his career at Gale Products in Galesburg, Illinois as a machinist/maintenance worker. Earlier, he worked with his father at their farm. Rich was an owner/operator at K&W Welding locally for many years. He loved the outdoors, tinkering with anything mechanical, and was a lifelong automobile enthusiast. He was an original member of the “Dragon Coolies Car Club”, and Rich and his wife were both founding members of Limited Rods of Western Illinois. Rich was a collector, mostly Monmouth Historical Memorabilia. Mostly, Rich loved his family and friends.
Surviving Rich are two daughters, Jerri (Dennis) Kottwitz of Clever, Mo. and Terri Harris of Galesburg, IL, two grandchildren, Candace (Matt) Talley-Free and Alaina (Michael) Talley-Scott, and five grandchildren, Grayson Free, Gavin Free, Addison Free, Colson Scott and Cameron Scott. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Ann (Ken) Jones and Doris Liehs. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his son-in-law, Kenneth Harris.
As were Rich’s wishes, cremation is being accorded. At this time, no services are planned. Memorials may be made to the Warren County History Museum or a charity of the donors choice.
