District 205 teacher pleads not guilty to felony theft charge

A Galesburg School District teacher charged with felony theft, six years after she pleaded guilty to similar charges in another case, is pleading not guilty.

Michelle White, 54, made the plea in Knox County Court Wednesday afternoon, where she also asked for a trial by jury, and waived her right to a preliminary hearing.

White was arrested by Galesburg Police May 23rd after allegedly being caught shoplifting at Target on three separate occasions.

A pre-trial conference is scheduled for September 9th, and a trial could be held as soon as September 23rd.

White, in 2018, pleaded guilty to another felony theft charge but was sentenced to probation and restitution.

According to a WGIL review of personnel reports, in April, the Galesbrug School Board approved White’s intent to retire at the end of the 2027-2028 school year, but in July, was transferred out of Lombard Middle School and into a new position at Galesburg High School called “Restorative Behavior Facilitator.”
