Mr. Robert L. “Bob” Smith, 51, of Galesburg, Illinois, formerly of Gilson, Illinois, died 5:13 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Carle Methodist Hospital in Peoria, Illinois after a long battle with cancer.
He was born March 28, 1973, in Galesburg, Illinois to James R. and Carol S. (Morris) Smith.
Surviving is his mother, Carol S. Bohanan of Galesburg, his father, James R. (and Jean) Smith of Galesburg, a son, Robert Lance Christy of Kentucky, a sister, Christina Smith of Galesburg, a brother, Jeremy (and Sharon) Smith of Galesburg, four nieces and nephews, Zachary Brazee, Riley Plue, Ethan Brazee, and Michael Smith, several aunts, uncles, and cousins and a special aunt, Sarah Kasparie of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Don Bohanan.
Bob graduated from Knoxville High School in 1992. He served in the United States Army from 1993 to 1998. He was of the Baptist faith. He worked for Derby Industries for over seven years. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, spending time with his friends and family and loved playing pool.
A visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2024, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Gilson Cemetery. Chaplain Jordan Knight will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Knox County Honor Guard.
