A downtown Galesburg location that provides day services for community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities has reopened after being closed for nearly six months due to a fire in a neighboring building.
Staff at Thrive Community Services have started to back in this week into The Hub, 143 E Main St. in Galesburg. The Hub has been closed since Feb. 19, when a fire broke out in an adjacent building.
An early-morning fire on Feb. 19 caused extensive structural and water damage of the 3-story building at 149-151 E. Main St. The building was demolished June 1.
According to officials from Thrive, its building at 143 E. Main St. has been deemed safe for occupancy and is now open.
Pam Green, CEO of Thrive Community Services, said in a news release, “We are excited to be back in downtown Galesburg. Our participants are in integral part of the community and having a space downtown creates opportunities for community engagement.”
The Hub is operated by Thrive Community Services, which provides community day services for our community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The employment services program for Thrive is based at the Hub. Participants who are seeking employment can receive assistance completing applications, practicing for interviews and receive job coaching.
The Hub also is home to the SOAR respite program. SOAR group respite is offered to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities ages 5 and up.
Originally opened in February 2020, The Hub is known for being a space which local agencies can hold meetings or activities.
The parking lot behind the building is not currently available.
