She won’t be in the top job for long, but she’ll officially have it.
The Knox County Board Wednesday night approved appointing local attorney Sherry Lawson-Weaver as Knox County State’s Attorney.
This, after Jeremy Karlin resigns officially effective September 5th, even though a post on social media suggested Wednesday was his last day in office. Karlin will soon begin private practice through the James Kelly Law Firm, in their Galesburg office. Karlin previously said he would not seek a second term.
In a news release, County Board Chair Jared Hawkinson points to Lawson-Weaver’s “long history” of service in the area.
She’s been a Public Defender in Knox, Warren, and Henderson County, an Assistant State’s Attorney in Warren County, and current Assistant State’s Attorney in Knox County.
“With Sherry’s presence in the States Attorney’s Office currently, we look forward to a smooth transition for the office and would also like to thank Jeremy Karlin for his service to Knox County,” said Hawkinson, in a news release.
Lawson-Weaver will serve until after the November election, at which time Ashley Worby will take over, as she’s running for a full term unopposed.
A swearing-in ceremony for Lawson-Weaver is expected next week.
