A Canton man is wanted by police on the Illinois side of the Saint Louis area after he allegedly attempted to abduct a child there.

Canton Police say Michael Roberts, 44, is wanted in Madison County on a felony charge of Child Abduction.

Police in Alton tell media outlets there a parent there called police Tuesday, saying a man walked up to her daughter while waiting at a bus stop and tried to take her.

The girl believes the man had been eyeing her from a nearby parking lot.

When the man believed to be Roberts drove up to her and told her to get in the car, she said no, and then pulled out a phone to call police.

Reports say court documents claim that Roberts admitted to the attempt, but an arrest warrant wasn’t issued until later.

Roberts is said to be driving a black Dodge Charger, with Illinois license plate BU74699. If you’ve seen him, or have more information, you’re asked to call Canton Police at (309) 647-5131.
