UPDATED 3:52 p.m.
There will be extra security in place for all remaining Knoxville High School Homecoming activities Friday after the district’s superintendent says a threat was made.
According to a text message sent to parents by District-202 Superintendent Andrea Guerrero, she’s been made aware that a student was detained after allegedly making “a threat of violence.”
Specific details were not made clear.
Knoxville Police Chief Ron Poyner confirmed to WGIL that a threat was made and that the student in question was detained, but could not say anything else, except that the investigation is ongoing, and that he received immediate assistance from Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Illinois State Police, given that the Homecoming parade was about to start at the time.
Poyner says there is no active threat to the community.
Guerrero says the district has taken all the necessary precautions, and, “out of an abundance of caution” there will be a “stronger police presence” at Homecoming events.
Friday night’s football game in Knoxville sees the Blue Bullets taking on LVC.
“CUSD #202 does an excellent job working with us,” Poyner told WGIL by e-mail. “Situations like these will prove time and time again that all law enforcement agencies throughout Knox County will work in concert [sic] with each other for the common goal – public safety.”
