A new Galesburg VA clinic is slated to open in the former Sandburg Mall in early November.

Justin Hardt, Public Affairs officer with Iowa City VA Health Care System, tells WGIL the Lane A. Evans VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic, currently located at 310 Home Blvd., will open in the former Bergner’s store in Sandburg Mall the first week of  November.

The move will allow the Galesburg VA clinic to nearly double in size and provide additional services.

As work continues on the interior, crews could be seen Saturday painting the exterior, along with patching and seal coating the driveway and approaches to the property.

The new Galesburg VA clinic will lease nearly 20,000 square feet of the Bergner’s building, the same amount of space that was recently utilized by the the Knox County Health Department for its Unified Command Vaccination Center.

The new space will provide primary care, radiology, audiology (including an audiology booth), optometry, laboratory testing, expanded physical therapy and mental health services and telehealth capability. There is also space provided to expand the provision of some specialty care in the future.

The current location will stay open to patients until the move to the new location, according to Hardt. He notes radiology services won’t be available for the first few weeks in the new location, but all other services will be available upon opening.
