IHSA football playoffs 2024: Farmington, Rockridge, Elmwood-Brimfield advance to second round

Farmington, Rockridge and Elmwood-Brimfield lead a trio of teams from the WGIL/FM 95 area that advanced in the opening round of the 2024 IHSA State Football Playoffs.

In Class 2A, No. 1 seed and unbeaten Farmington shut out Deer Creek Mackinaw 21-0 on Saturday.

Also in Class 2A, Rockridge defeated Lanark Eastland 22-8, while Elmwood-Brimfield crushed Fithian Oakwood 56-26.

Rockridge (8-2) will play at Farmington (10-0) in the second round. Elmwood-Brimfield (9-1) plays its second-round game at Dwight (7-3).

Five other teams from the area fell in the first round.

In Class 4A, Macomb fell to Murphysboro 58-33 and Kewanee lost to Olney Richland County 41-14.

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans fell 22-20 to Paxton-Buckley-Loda 22-20 in Class 3A on Saturday.

In Class 1A, Annawan-Wethersfield lost to Rockford Lutheran 42-21 and Stark County fell to Galena 43-42.

Three of four teams from the Western Big 6 Conference advanced to the second round, with Geneseo topping Chicago Sullivan 42-0 in Class 4A; and Quincy crushing Summit Argo 49-7 and Moline downing Addison Trail 38-13 in Class 7A. Sterling fell 42-18 to Wheaton St. Francis in Class 5A.

Moline (8-2) will play at Quincy (10-0) in a second-round game, while Geneseo (6-4) plays at Chicago (DePaul) (7-3).
