Sue Dutell is the recipient of the 2024 Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award. She received the award Monday at the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce’s 46th Annual Thanksgiving Luncheon at Cedar Creek Hall.
Selected from a competitive pool of nominees, Dutell’s extensive history of community service includes significant contributions to organizations such as United Way of Knox County, Christmas in Action, the Fishing Derby, Galesburg Public Library Foundation, Thrive Community Services, and the Rotary Club of Galesburg.
Trent Cox, who nominated Dutell, said, “It’s difficult to look at the list of past Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award recipients and not imagine Sue’s name. She contributes to our community through countless organizations, with her commitment to giving back evident in everything they do. She is kind-hearted, selfless, and dedicated to serving others.”
“On behalf of the Chamber’s board of directors and myself, I am thrilled to congratulate Sue on this well-deserved recognition,” said Pam Gaither, executive director of the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Her passion and dedication to improving our community embody the essence of the Thomas B. Herring Community Service Award.”
The Thomas B. Herring Award is presented to an outstanding area citizen who has distinguished himself/herself/themselves through service to our community. Tom Herring served Galesburg as its second City Manager for 18 years.
Today’s luncheon featured updates on the state of the city from Mayor Peter Schwartzman, a keynote address by Mark Thomas, outgoing Knox County Coroner and owner of Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, and the presentation of the award by Kraig Boynton, the 2023 recipient.
