Armed suspects broke into a Galesburg home early Friday morning, tied up the residents and stole items including cash, a vehicle and the family dog, according to police.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. Friday, Galesburg Police Department responded to a report of a break-in at a residence in the 800 block of East Fremont Street. Upon arrival, it was found that two suspects had entered the residence as the occupants were sleeping. The suspects entered through an unsecured bedroom window.
The suspects, who police say were armed with handguns, tied up the residents. Stolen from the residence were several firearms, an undisclosed amount of cash, the family dog, and a vehicle.
Officers from the patrol unit and the special operations unit processed the scene of the incident and started an investigation. The stolen vehicle was later recovered on West Carl Sandburg Drive in Galesburg, unoccupied.
Police say preliminary information suggests that the suspects were targeting this specific residence. They say there is no information to suggest an ongoing threat to the public at this time.
