With temperatures dropping to their lowest readings of the season, the city of Galesburg has announced three locations designated as warming centers.
The National Weather Service issued a winter advisory starting at midnight tonight and extending into 9 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures will be dropping through the night to a low of 6 degrees for the Galesburg area. With the higher winds, the windchill will be down to -6 degrees. Thursday’s high is only expected to be around 10 degrees, for the season’s coldest temperatures to date.
The following locations in Galesburg will be available as warming centers:
- Knox County Housing Authority Overnight Shelter 525/527 Iowa Court (open daily from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
- Public Safety Building Lobby – 150 S. Broad St. (open 24 hours, daily)
- YMCA Lobby – 1324 W. Carl Sandburg Drive (available as a warming center on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
