Coldest temps of the season hit Galesburg. Here’s where to stay warm

With temperatures dropping to their lowest readings of the season, the city of Galesburg has announced three locations designated as warming centers.

The National Weather Service issued a winter advisory starting at midnight tonight and extending into 9 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures will be dropping through the night to a low of 6 degrees for the Galesburg area. With the higher winds, the windchill will be down to -6 degrees. Thursday’s high is only expected to be around 10 degrees, for the season’s coldest temperatures to date.

The following locations in Galesburg will be available as warming centers:

  • Knox County Housing Authority Overnight Shelter 525/527 Iowa Court (open daily from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
  • Public Safety Building Lobby – 150 S. Broad St. (open 24 hours, daily)
  • YMCA Lobby – 1324 W. Carl Sandburg Drive (available as a warming center on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
