Woman convicted of murdering daughter denied new sentence

Hazel Ivy
A Galesburg woman convicted of murdering her 7-year-old daughter will remain incarcerated for several decades.
33-year-old Hazel Ivy pleaded guilty but mentally ill to the charge of murder in June 2022 and was sentenced to 53 years in prison for stabbing and strangling her daughter, Willow Banks.
Ivy won a small legal battle in July, when the Fourth District Appellate Court reversed the Circuit Court’s denial of a motion to reconsider her sentence.
That hearing took place Tuesday with Judge Andrew Doyle ruling that Ivy’s original sentence will stand.
Ivy was remanded back to the Department of Corrections, where she’s being held at Logan Correctional Center.
