Village of Maquon to receive nearly $600,000 state grant for park improvements

Nearly $600,000 worth of improvements are coming to the village park in Maquon.

The Village of Maquon announced Friday that it has been selected to receive a  $587,700 Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant from the State of  Illinois. This funding will go toward several improvements at the Village park: including a shelter with restrooms, playground equipment, sports and recreation upgrades, and more.

Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) awarded a total  of $55.2 million to 100 communities for local park development projects as part of the latest  round of OSLAD grants.

“We are thrilled and incredibly grateful to have our project selected,” said Mark Thomas, Village president. “I want to thank our Village Trustees, Western Illinois Regional Council, Hutchison Engineering, and members of the public  for the collaborative effort it took to make this happen. These improvements are exciting and  much needed.”

Established by the Illinois General Assembly in 1986, OSLAD is a cost-sharing program  between state and local governments that helps communities fund land acquisition and  development for parks and outdoor recreation projects. It’s become one of the most popular grant  programs in Illinois. Since its establishment, OSLAD has awarded $640 million for park projects  throughout Illinois.
