Longtime Galesburg-area farmer, retired teacher among victims killed in crash involving wrong-way driver on I-74

A Galesburg couple has been identified as two of the three victims killed as the result of head-on crash involving a wrong-way driver early Thursday morning on I-74 near Gilson.

The two-vehicle traffic crash occurred at approximately 3:08 a.m. Thursday on I-74 eastbound near milepost 63 in Knox County.

Information obtained from the Illinois State Police, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Knox County Coroner Jacque Dare says a 2012 Cadillac sedan driven by Todd A Graves, 61, Springfield, Ohio, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes with no lights when it struck a SUV driven by Steven H. Youngquist, 70, of Galesburg, head-on. Both Graves and Youngquist were pronounced deceased on scene. A passenger in the SUV, Christine F. Youngquist, 72, of Galesburg, was flown to a regional hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

According to their obituaries, Steven Youngquist was a lifelong farmer, and his wife Christine was a longtime retired educator who taught in both the Galesburg and Monmouth-Roseville school districts. Steven Youngquist also owned and operated the SeedHouse in Cameron for many years and continued to work with his son at Youngquist Ag. They lived for many years in Cameron before moving to Galesburg.

Illinois State Police says the crash investigation is active and ongoing.
