Two men are in custody in the Knox County Jail for allegedly stealing large sums of money from a drive-up ATM in Abingdon.
On Thursday, Knox County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a burglary to a drive up ATM in Abingdon where a false key was used to open the ATM and corrupt settings to withdraw what law enforcement officials say were large sums of currency.
Investigators obtained surveillance videos and and say further information links the suspects to multiple ATM burglaries across Illinois and many other states. Information gathered led detectives to making an identification for the suspect vehicle and possible suspects. Detectives were able to utilize multiple resources to ultimately locate the vehicle in motion and potential locations.
On Saturday, information gathered led detectives to Havana, Illinois, where co-agency communication resulted in a successful apprehension of two suspects and the suspect vehicle in question.
Suspects in custody are: Marol Maglui Aguiar Rodriguez (age 20) and Leandro Magdiel Bordones Villegas (age 26). They face faces of Burglary to Building, Criminal Damage to Property $500 to $10,000, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Damage to Property, Theft $10,000-$100,000.
Knox County Sheriff Jack Harlan said the investigation remains open, with other potential suspects still at large for similar criminal activity.
Harlan recognized assistance from Springfield Police Department, Peoria FBI Office, Mahomet Police Department, Avon Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Mason County Sheriff’s, Havana Police Department, Woodford County Sheriff’s Office, and LaSalle County.
