No injuries were reported after high winds caused the facade of a Downtown Galesburg business to fall onto the sidewalk Friday afternoon.
Galesburg Fire Chief Randy Hovind said wind gusts led the facade of Personally Yours Creations, 223 E. Main St., to come loose from the building, falling to the sidewalk. He said there were no pedestrians walking on the sidewalk when the facade collapsed.
“It was an old facade, and the wind just took it down,” Hovind said. “Once the wind dies down, the building owner is going to have a crew come in and just take it off.”
A wind advisory remains in effect until 9 p.m. this evening for much of Illinois, including Galesburg. Southwest winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph can be expected.
