The City of Monmouth has been awarded a $1.5 million grant through Gov. JB Pritzker’s Rebuild Illinois Downtowns and Main Streets program. The significant investment will fund a transformative streetscaping project along the 200 blocks of North and South Main Street, enhancing the heart of Monmouth’s downtown corridor.

The revitalization project will include upgraded sidewalks, modern lighting, lush  landscaping, and the addition of parallel parking to improve accessibility and  convenience. These enhancements are designed to create a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly environment that will attract visitors, support local businesses, and serve as a hub for community events.

“This grant is big news for Monmouth,” said Monmouth Mayor Rod Davies. “By revitalizing Main Street, we’re further investing in the future of our downtown, making it a more inviting destination for shopping, dining, and community gatherings. We’re proud to partner with  the State of Illinois to bring this vision to life.”

The project is part of a broader state initiative to rejuvenate commercial corridors and  stimulate economic growth in communities across Illinois. Monmouth’s Main Street improvements will connect seamlessly with the city’s currently reconstructed Public Square, creating a better downtown experience.
