Susan “Susie” Yuen Wong, 93, of Galesburg, died at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, 2025, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
She was born July 5, 1931, in Toishan, Guangdong, China. Susan was reared and educated in Toishan and came to the United States at the age of 18. She married Bing L. Wong on February 7, 1968, in Galesburg. He preceded her in death May 14, 1995. Bing and Susan together owned and operated Wong’s Café in Galesburg for over 35 years until its closure.
Left to cherish her memory is one son, John Robert Wong; one daughter, Melody Jean Wong (Lupe Guerrero); two grandchildren: Amber (Daniel) Reynolds and Samuel Wong; and three great grandsons: Boston, Jaxton, and Aidan Reynolds; all of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 27 years, Bing; and one brother.
Susan was a faithful Catholic and member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She found true happiness being outdoors. Susan enjoyed singing, dancing, and had a passion for shopping as well. A true family woman at heart, Susan took great delight in sharing quality time with her family, especially her grandbabies. With a personality described as ornery yet humorous, she was never one to shy away from expressing her feelings bluntly, often leaving others in laughter with her candid remarks. Her happy disposition and genuine warmth ensured that she never met a stranger, and those who knew her were forever touched by her kindness and spirited nature.
