Galesburg’s Sidewalk Social to blend art, ice cream and community spirit

The Sidewalk Social

CommunityGro, a grassroots nonprofit and growing resource network of free food access—including neighborhood gardens, community orchards, and Blessing Boxes—is teaming with Sprinkle & Spoon, Galesburg’s beloved allergen-friendly ice cream shop, to present The Sidewalk Social: a summer celebration of art, sweetness, and shared purpose.

Taking place on Friday, June 20 from 4 to 8 p.m., The Sidewalk Social invites the community to connect through a vibrant sidewalk chalk art competition and the official debut of a limited-edition, allergen-friendly ice cream flavor—co-created by Chef Hellcat (Angelica Mangieri, founder of CommunityGro) and Sprinkle & Spoon. The event is designed to highlight how joy, creativity, and nourishment can bring people together and support meaningful work at the same time.

Sprinkle & Spoon’s new flavor, like all of their offerings, is free of dairy, eggs, nuts, and gluten. A portion of sales from the flavor will go toward supporting CommunityGro’s work, which also includes growing education, sustainability workshops, and shared tools and resources for gardeners across the city.

“I believe food and art live in the same place—they both nourish, connect, and heal,” said Chef Hellcat. “This event is a reminder that chasing joy has a place in the work we do. When one creates beauty in places where it’s been missing, they’re offering something sacred.”
