OSF St. Mary earns top safety grade in Spring 2025 Leapfrog rankings

OSF HealthCare St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg received an A grade in the biannual Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades for the Spring 2025 cycle.

Nearly 3,000 hospitals across the U.S. are assigned A, B, C, D, and F letter grades. Widely acknowledged as one of the most prestigious distinctions a hospital can receive in the U.S., the recognition showcases OSF St. Mary’s commitment to patient safety and quality.

“Achieving an ‘A’ grade from the Leapfrog Group is a testament to the dedication of our Mission Partners, who provide exceptional care for our patients every day,” said Lisa DeKezel, OSF St. Mary president. “We’re very proud of their ongoing commitment to delivering safe, effective care in alignment with our Mission to serve with the greatest care and love.”

The study only includes hospitals meeting specific size criteria and treating a minimum number of specific conditions; therefore, some OSF HealthCare facilities, such as OSF HealthCare Holy Family in Monmouth and OSF HealthCare Saint Luke in Kewanee, were excluded from the ratings.

Hospitals are evaluated based on 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as systems in place to prevent harm. These measures include patient care management, medication safety, the frequency of healthcare-associated infections, and maternity care. The biannual report is calculated by a panel of safety experts, is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
