A 67-year-old man, suspected in several recent Galesburg robberies, was arrested Thursday night after robbing a local ice cream shop, according to the Galesburg Police Department.
Galesburg police arrested Grayling Churn, 67, after an armed robbery at Flavor Freeze, 552 S. Farnham St. around 9:21 p.m. on Thursday, said Acting Police Chief Kevin Legate.
Churn allegedly fled with a bank bag of cash.
Officers located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop, which led officers to pursue the vehicle for several blocks. The vehicle came to a stop in the 200 block of Linneus Avenue in Galesburg. Churn exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers were able to detain Churn after a brief foot chase.
He faces charges of aggravated robbery, aggravated fleeing and eluding, aggravated battery to a police officer, and traffic violations. Churn remains in Knox County Jail, under investigation for other local robberies.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Department assisted Galesburg Police in the incident.
