Peoria physician identified as victim killed in Monmouth crash; practiced in Galesburg, Monmouth

A Peoria physician died in a crash between a car and a tractor-trailer on U.S. 67 northbound near 185th Avenue in Monmouth on Thursday.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash occurred around 2:32 p.m. Thursday. Warren County Coroner Al McGuire identified the victim as Dr. Syed Imam, 47, of Peoria, with OSF HealthCare, pronounced dead at 2:50 p.m. Imam was a nephrologist with OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg and OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth.

An OSF HealthCare statement provided to WGIL, reads:

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that Dr. Syed Imam, a valued member of the medical staff at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg and OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, has died following an accident. Dr. Imam was a dedicated physician with Renal Care Associates who provided exceptional care to his patients and was beloved by his colleagues.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and three children, as well as the many coworkers and patients who were impacted by his life and service.”

The investigation continues, with no cause released.

Northbound U.S. 67 was closed for several hours, with traffic diverted at 180th Avenue, until 8:49 p.m. Thursday.
