Goodbye tacos and potato oles, and hello coffee?

Taco John’s, a quick service restaurant known for its Mexican-inspired cuisine, has permanently closed its doors at 1922 N. Henderson St. Workers were at the store Sunday morning moving equipment from the store into a UHaul truck.

A manager, who did not identify himself, said the restaurant was permanently closed, but said, “We have no comment at this time.” He did say that he expects a 7 Brew Coffee shop to open at this location.

Earlier this month, WGIL reported that 7 Brew, which operates over 300 drive-thru-only locations across 32 states, including 13 in Illinois, plans to open a location in Galesburg later this year. Although 7 Brew did not reveal the location of its proposed Galesburg store, the city’s Community Development department has received and reviewed site plans for a 7 Brew location at 1922 N. Henderson St.

Taco John’s opened at 1922 N. Henderson St. in February 2016. Previously, the building housed Spudo’s and, before that, Fazoli’s.

It marked the second stint in Galesburg for Taco John’s. It was originally located at 1545 N. Henderson St. Taco John’s operates and franchises more than 350 restaurants in 23 states – making it one of the largest Mexican quick-service restaurant brands in America.
