Suspect arrested, charged with murder in Galesburg apartment homicide case

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the April 15 homicide of a 49-year-old woman found unresponsive in a Galesburg apartment.

Gerald Fry Jr., 56, was apprehended at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday on a first-degree murder warrant and is held at Knox County Jail, the Galesburg Police Department announced Wednesday evening.

Police responded to 191 N. Prairie St. #16 on April 15 after a report of an unresponsive female. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Knox County Coroner Jacque Dare has identified the victim as Tricia Nichols. The cause of death was manual strangulation and multiple blunt force traumatic injuries.

The investigation, aided by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit and Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office, continues.
