Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, previously tabbed by franchisee MLY Investments as a “perfect fit” for Galesburg, has secured what it believes is the ideal site for its new restaurant.
The fast-casual restaurant chain, known for its retro, family-friendly vibe and made-to-order menu, will be located at 1597 N. Henderson St. The former H&R Block tax office, located south of City Select Motors, will be demolished to make way for a 3,019-square-foot facility. According to information obtained by the Knox County Assessor, MLY REAL ESTATE, LLC closed on the property for $590,000 on June 13.

Freddy’s is known for its cooked-to-order steakburgers made with lean 100% ground beef, all-beef hot dogs, crispy shoestring fries, and frozen custard treats made with freshly churned chocolate or vanilla frozen custard. It combines nostalgic diner aesthetics with quick service, including drive-thru, indoor dining, and outdoor patio options.
The new Galesburg location is slated to open in 2025, according to Steven Young of Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based MLY Investments, which operates 11 Freddy’s across Iowa and Illinois.

Young previously told WGIL, “Galesburg has a strong sense of community and a growing economy, which aligns perfectly with Freddy’s family-friendly dining experience.” He highlighted Galesburg’s accessibility and potential to attract customers from nearby areas, calling it “the perfect fit” for Freddy’s.
Freddy’s has more than 500 restaurants in 36 states. The nearest Freddy’s locations are in East Peoria and two in Davenport, Iowa.
